Word families -at and -op

rereading to see if it makes sense, looks right, sounds right, word powers, making a story come alive, talking about strong character feelings and using precise language to describe, using mentor texts to analyze character feelings, setting reading goals using reading powers, reading playdates mat, working with a partner to make decisions, fluency

Math- simple addition, writing numerals, Ten Frames. Identifying numerals through games, number

word before/after, counting backwards

10-1 and 17-1, counting by 10’s and by 1’s to 100,

finger patterns 1-20, math skill work, decomposing numbers using games, problem solving strategies,

equations, 10’s and ones, writing greater numbers, dot patterns, addition doubles, one more, one less, geometry, looking for 3-D shapes, shape hunt around the school,  shape vocabulary, shape tests, shape mural

Writing- K-Daily News, word stretching,, making writing readable, leaving spaces, punctuation, using uppercase letter at the beginning of sentences, giving and receiving advice, rereading, adding details, rereading to see if it sounds right, looks right and makes sense, using the word you to teach, adding labels to pictures for clarity, sharing and acting out how-to books, goal setting, writing checklist, Using tips from mentor texts to try out, elaboration in writing books-adding tips and warnings for readers, asking partners for help, revising, publishing

Social Studies- role play problem solving, friendship skills, stress reliever strategies bullying strategies, families

Science-Weather watching, how weather changes our lives

Our trip to the Flynn to see Gerald and Piggie was amazing.  The companion workshop we did last week to prepare us for the show really helped us to understand some of what we were seeing and hearing such as tone of voice.  We  made a real connection to our reading work.

I hope that everyone had a fantastic vacation! Our trip to the Flynn to hear the magnificent VSO and VYO was just what we needed to get back in the swing of things.  We are still using all of our snow gear, please keep sending in those snowpants.  :)
